Compatibility test
Will it work at my school?
Find out before you order. Our free test game takes about two minutes. Play it on a student device, shared the same way you plan to share your game, and you will know.
Test in three steps
Get the test game
Download the test file or the Google Sites embed code below.
Share it your way
Put it where your students will find your game: Canvas, a Google Site for Google Classroom, your website, or our hosted link.
Play it as a student
On a student device, signed in as a student, play to the end. The last screen should say "It works! Your GBG Education game will run on this device."
Thistle Hollow Quick Check
The compatibility test. Students help set up Field Day using the same building blocks as our games (choice cards, tapping a spot in a pixel-art scene, putting things in order, sorting, and tap all that apply, with sound and read aloud), then it shows a short device check on the last screen.
This page shows the test from our website. That tells you about your browser, not your school's setup, so please also try it with your planned delivery method.

Why it gets through
Built to be filter-friendly
School web filters can block games because of what they load from other sites: ads, trackers, fonts, sign-in pages. Our games load nothing from anywhere.
- One self-contained file. The text, pictures, fonts, and code are all inside a single HTML file.
- No outside connections. The game makes no network requests while it runs, so nothing can be blocked partway through.
- No accounts. No sign-ups and no logins, for you or your students.
- No data collection. No cookies, no analytics, no storage, and no student names.
- Works offline, too. The same file runs when opened directly on a computer.
Delivery options
Four ways to share a game
Test with the method you plan to use. Your delivered game comes with the same instructions.
Canvas
Upload the HTML file to your course Files, then either add it to a Module (fastest) or embed it on a Page or an Assignment with a short iframe (best for students). Students submit their completion code as a text entry.
Google Classroom, through Google Sites
Google Classroom cannot show an HTML game by itself, so the game goes on a Google Site and you post the site link in Classroom.
- In Google Sites, open your site (or create one at sites.google.com) and go to the page where the game should appear.
- In the right panel, choose Insert, then Embed, then the Embed code tab.
- Open google-sites-embed.txt, select everything, copy it, and paste it into the box. Click Next, then Insert.
- Drag the embed box's handles so it is tall (about 800 px) and full width.
- Click Publish. If your school allows it, limit viewing to your school's domain.
- In Google Classroom, post the published site link as Material or attach it to an Assignment. Students submit their completion code as a private comment or in a short answer question.
- Test on a student device: the last screen should say "It works! Your GBG Education game will run on this device."
The teacher passphrase for the test game is thistle hollow. Tap "Made by GBG Education" five times to open the teacher screen.
Your own website
If you have a class or school website, there are two ways to add a game:
- Upload the HTML file to your site's files or documents and link to it. Students open the link and play.
- Paste the embed code into an HTML or embed block, if your site builder has one. Use the Google Sites embed code file, or, if the game file is already online (on your site or our hosted link), an iframe like this one:
<iframe src="GAME-ADDRESS" title="Thistle Hollow Quick Check" width="100%" height="760" style="border: 0; max-width: 100%;" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Replace GAME-ADDRESS with the address of the game file. Some school website builders do not allow HTML uploads or embed code. If yours does not, the hosted link below is the easiest option.
A hosted link on our site
We can host your game at an unlisted address on gbgeducation.com. It is not linked from anywhere on our site, so only people you share the link with will find it, and search engines are told not to index it. Post the link in any LMS, or embed it with the iframe above.
To test this option, open this address on a student device, the way students would open your link: gbgeducation.com/test/gbg-compatibility-test.html
Your district's policies come first
Teachers are responsible for following their district's policies on outside instructional resources. If you are not sure whether a custom game is allowed, check with your school or district technology team before you order.
Guarantee
Our guarantee policy
- Test first. Before ordering, play the free compatibility test game on a student device using your planned delivery method: Canvas, Google Classroom through Google Sites, your own website, or our hosted link. The order form asks you to confirm that you did.
- Follow your district's policies. Teachers are responsible for following their district's policies on outside instructional resources.
- If it does not run, we make it right. If the test game worked but your delivered game does not run, we will fix it or provide another hosting method. A refund is issued only if we cannot make it run.
- Custom work. Because every game is custom work, refunds are not offered for district policy or web filter issues after delivery.
