FAQ

Questions teachers ask

Short answers about privacy, how the games work, and ordering. Still wondering about something? Email hello@gbgeducation.com.

Student privacy

Do the games collect any student data?

No. The games collect no student information at all. There are no accounts, no logins, no cookies, no analytics, and no tracking. Students never type their names, and no student names appear in any game.

The games also make no network requests. Everything the game needs is inside one HTML file, and the game never contacts any outside address.

Do my students need accounts?

No. Students open the game and play. There is nothing to sign up for, for you or for them.

Where do scores go?

Nowhere. The game does not save or send scores. At the end, it shows the student a completion code that includes their score, and the student hands that code in through your LMS. You decide where it goes.

What information do you need from me?

Only what you type into the consultation form: your name as it should appear in the game, your email, and details about your lesson. Please do not send student names or any student information. We never need it. See our privacy page.

How the games work

How do class codes work?

You make up a short code, like P3-FOX, and give it to your class. Everyone who types the same code gets the same game in the same order, every time.

Add -1, -2, or -3 to set the level: P3-FOX-1 is Support, P3-FOX-2 is On Level, and P3-FOX-3 is Challenge. Without a level number, students choose their level on a level screen. A different code gives a different order (and a different mix of questions when the game has more questions than a round uses). More about class codes.

How do completion codes work, and how do I check them?

At the end of the game, each student gets a code like P3-FOX-2-87-Q4T: the class code, the level, the score as a percent, and a three letter check. Students submit it in your LMS, for example as a text entry in Canvas or a private comment in Google Classroom.

To check codes, open your game and tap the small "Made by GBG Education" line five times, then enter your teacher passphrase. Paste in one code or a whole list. The game shows the class code, level, and score for each, and flags any code that was changed. The check stops casual editing; it is meant for classroom practice, not high-stakes testing. More about completion codes.

How do the levels work?

The Differentiated Game has three levels of the same game:

  • Level 1, Support: fewer choices, extra hints, and a second try.
  • Level 2, On Level: the regular version, with hints.
  • Level 3, Challenge: tougher decisions and no hints.

We write the content for each level to fit your students, and we can adjust these settings on request. The Custom Game has one level, matched to the students you describe.

Can the game read aloud?

Yes, on most devices. A "Read aloud" button uses the speech voices built into the student's browser. If a device has no speech voices, the button is simply hidden and the game still works. Nothing is sent anywhere to make this work.

Can the game use our school colors and mascot?

Yes. Tell us your school colors and mascot on the consultation form. We build the game in your colors, and your mascot can appear on the title screen and in the story. The game checks the contrast of every color, and if a school color would make text or buttons hard to read, it adjusts the shade or uses dark ink or cream instead. You can try it on the samples page.

What devices do the games work on?

Chromebooks, iPads, Windows laptops, and Macs, with a mouse, a trackpad, or touch. The layout fits screens from small phones up to a classroom projector.

Every game is click and tap only: no keyboard-only controls, no timers, and no fast reflexes. Buttons are large and easy to hit, and the type and visuals are sized for the grade band.

Do students need internet access?

Only to open the game from Canvas, a Google Site, a website, or a hosted link. Once it is open, the game needs nothing else, and the file also runs when opened directly on a computer.

Ordering

How long does it take?

About one week after payment. If you need the game by a certain date, tell us on the consultation form and we will say in your quote whether we can meet it.

What if I want changes?

The Custom Game includes 1 revision and the Differentiated Game includes 2. Play the game, then send us your changes (wording, characters, answer choices, and so on) and we will update it.

What is in the Lesson Kit?

The full Lesson Kit includes:

  • A lesson plan with an Observation Ready section: alignment to the Danielson Framework for Teaching (2022 edition), research-based strategies, and standards alignment. We can use another framework, such as Marzano or your state's model, on request.
  • An intro slide deck (.pptx) that you can edit and open in Google Slides.
  • A worksheet with an answer key, as a PDF and an editable .docx.
  • A worksheet version for each level: Support, On Level, and Challenge.

It comes with the Differentiated Game, and you can add it to a Custom Game for $25. You can download the Lesson Kit for every sample on the samples page.

Are the games aligned to standards?

Yes, to the standards you name or the ones that fit your lesson. We only list standards codes we have checked against the official source. If we cannot verify a code, we leave it out and tell you, rather than guess.

How do I pay?

After you approve your quote, you pay through a secure Stripe payment link. Stripe processes the payment, so we never see or store your card number. School or Department Packs can be paid by invoice or purchase order. See pricing.

Can my school or department order several games?

Yes. The School or Department Pack is $199 for up to 5 games and can be paid by invoice or purchase order. Mention it on the consultation form.

Will it work?

How do I know it will work at my school?

Play the free compatibility test on a student device, shared the way you plan to share your game. It takes about two minutes. Our games are built the same way as the test, so if the test runs, your game should too.

What if my game does not work?

If the test game worked but your delivered game does not run, we will fix it or provide another hosting method. A refund is issued only if we cannot make it run.

Teachers are responsible for following their district's policies on outside instructional resources. Because every game is custom work, refunds are not offered for district policy or web filter issues after delivery. Read the guarantee policy.
